Studying the Bible 2

This lesson deals with the interpretive bridge we must cross in order to understand the bible as it was originally written. I will leave a few comments later about things I unintentionally left out, but here is the actual lesson handout.

  1. One of the things that I forgot to include within this booklet is the importance of identifying what literary genre the particular book you are interpreting belongs to. The reason I say this is because you will interpret poetry entirely differently than you would a book of history, and for these reasons if you do not take careful note what genre the book is, then you could be guilty of misinterpreting scripture by taking the figurative as literal, and the literal as figurative.
